Our first beginners Aikido course of 2024 starts on the 11th of September for 8 weeks, Wednesdays: 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm at our training space in the Namiryu Dojo 19 Greenmount Lane – Harold’s Cross – D12 K883
Cost for the 8 weeks is only €60 Including Irish Aikido Association Certification on Completion the Course.
Starting on September 11th 2024 we invite you to complete our eight week course in the basics of Aikido which will bring you to a proficient level to train regularly in Aikido. During the course you’ll learn the basic Aikido techniques as well as stances, footwork, falling & rolling. This will give you a great grounding in the principals that define our Martial Art as well as a confidence in training with others in a Dojo. Aikido is well considered as one of the safest Martial Arts to train in, you won’t get punched or kicked here plus Aikido is a fun way of learning a Martial Art & also getting fit.
For the Beginners Aikido Course some loose clothing is totally fine to wear, whatever you usually wear while exercising, however if you prefer to wear Keikogi (Japanese name for our Aikido suit) that’s OK but in no way required.
As Aikido is a dynamic & non violent martial art based on harmony & circular movement most of the basic techniques start with a grab of the wrist, not a punch or kick, making things easier to take a bit of time to get the moves right.
You are not expected to be doing and big falls or flips during the course but we’ll show you how to do small falls well as that is part of our regular training, don’t worry though it’s easier than you might think & our Dojo floor is fully padded. We also use a large blue crash mat as part of our learning – extra safe & a lot of fun too.
The class starts off with some warmup exercises followed by some light stretching to make sure our bodies are warm and ready to train. This is followed by our lead teacher demonstrating a move, followed by the class partnering up to practice while our instructors help out as needed. This is then repeated throughout the day, then the class ends with a short cool down.
All our instructors are fully qualified sports coaches by Coaching Ireland & are vetted by National Vetting Bureau.
The Irish Aikido Association are founding members of the Aikido Advisory Board and are full members of the Irish Martial Arts Commission
