Why Choose Aikido?

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art based on movement, balance and technique rather than strength or aggression. It is widely regarded as one of the most beginner-friendly martial arts because training is cooperative and controlled. You won’t be expected to spar or exchange punches and kicks. Instead you’ll learn flowing techniques, body movement and safe training methods in a supportive environment.

  • Move efficiently
  • Improve balance and coordination
  • Develop body awareness
  • Perform safe falling and rolling techniques
  • Learn practical Aikido techniques
  • Train safely with partners
  • Build confidence at your own pace
Our fully padded dojo and experienced instructors make it an ideal environment for adults trying martial arts for the first time.

By the end of the course you’ll have a solid foundation in:
  • Basic Aikido techniques
  • Footwork and body movement

You’ll finish the course ready to join our regular adult Aikido classes with confidence.

Do I Need to Be Fit?

No. Many of our members join because they want to become fitter—not because they already are. Classes are suitable for adults of all fitness levels, and everyone progresses at their own pace. Whether you’re returning to exercise after a break or trying martial arts for the first time, our instructors will support you throughout the course.

What Should I Wear?

Simply wear comfortable sports clothing such as:
  • Tracksuit bottoms or leggings
  • T-shirt
  • Lightweight training top
If you already own a martial arts uniform (Keikogi), you’re welcome to wear it, but it’s completely optional.

What Happens in a Typical Class?

Every class includes:
  • Gentle warm-up exercises
  • Mobility and stretching
  • Instructor demonstrations

Our qualified instructors are always available to help, ensuring everyone learns safely and correctly. Our dojo is fully padded and we also use crash mats when learning falls, making training safe and enjoyable.
