FRIENDSHIP WEEKEND

IMAC Aikido Friendship Weekend

Shoshin Aikido School was the host of the first Irish Martial Arts Commission Aikido clubs friendship weekend where six instructors from different Aikido clubs and styles shared the essence of their styles to a mix of students from each school giving the opportunity to see a different part of Aikido and how its taught. Over the weekend we had instructors from Dublin Tomiki Aikido, Takemusu Aikido Society, Aikido Wexford, North East Aikido, Muden Juku Ireland and Shoshin Aikido School.

A fantastic opportunity to experience the similarities and differences that bond us in our shared love of Aikido that really showed the openness of everybody to learn something new and perhaps also take something very complimentary home with them. The name of our club Shoshin means beginners mind, having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying, even at an advanced level, just as a beginner would. We saw this from everybody on the mat that day from those with white belts right up to those who have been training in Aikido for many decades.

We are already making plans for the next weekend and hopefully we all can contribute to making this a yearly event.
